Flint Project Vox Inc:

Thank you for your last newsletter.  We received your letter requesting feedback and attendance at your upcoming workshop in February.  The Marquette Chapter of Project Vox has had a significant past two years in which we had completed many tasks, including the following:

·         Changed our name to “Voices of Recovery”

·         Developed several community forum meetings including such topics as Personal Stories of Recovery and the Science of Addiction.

·         Participated in local parades to raise awareness of the needs of the recovering community.

·         Developed a Public Service Announcement video that played on local television stations called “Voices of Recovery….Faces of Recovery”

·         Held monthly Voices of Recovery meetings

·         Produced educational pamphlets  

·          Participated in (2) Celebrate Recovery events in Lansing .

·         Additional highlights included appearances on local radio stations and promoting special recovery events.

We here in Marquette are in the process of re-evaluating our group and are working toward the formation of an advisory board that would hire a part-time coordinator to oversee “Voices of Recovery.”  What we have found is that the people who make-up ‘Voices of Recovery” are a collection of individuals connected with treatment providers as well as community members who are in recovery.  The “hands-on” work of coordinating and promoting activities has been difficult for the group to manage due to time constraints and we are therefore changing the structure of the group to allow for a part-time coordinator.  Our hope is that this will produce a greater awareness and activity development that will further expand the scope and depth of our mission.

The Marquette area Voices of Recovery group would like to establish consistent ties with the Flint Chapter, as well as other Vox chapters in the state.  Marquette is committed to the goals, ideals, and mission of Vox and would like to work with the other partners in the state.
