Re: Nominations to Faces & Voices of Recovery Board of Directors

Faces & Voices of Recovery invites and encourages interested individuals to apply for a position on our Board of Directors.

We are working to mobilize, organize and rally the recovery community – the millions of Americans in recovery from addiction to alcohol and other drugs, their families, friends and allies – to end discrimination, broaden social understanding, and achieve a just response to addiction as a public health crisis.

Our governance structure is evolving to better serve the recovery community. We seek individuals who can help us think strategically, bring a variety of experiences and expertise to our work and are committed to Faces & Voices of Recovery.

In early 2004, Faces & Voices incorporated and four people have served on the Board since then. We are seeking our designation as a 501 (c)(3) from the Internal Revenue Service and taking the next step to develop important regional linkages within the recovery community and provide expertise that fits our needs as a growing organization. Once the members of the Board of Directors have been selected, the Steering Committee that has guided our work since November 2003 will be dissolved.

We are looking for 21 individuals to serve on the Board. Thirteen of them would be regional representatives and the remaining eight would be at-large representatives. Board Members will serve at least one-year terms. Once the Board has been chosen, it will set up ways to provide for staggered terms and finalize other organizational issues.

Serving on the Faces & Voices of Recovery Board of Directors

Individuals elected to the Board will take office in May/June, 2005. Board Members serve as leaders in the continuing development of Faces & Voices of Recovery through participation in Board Meetings and on Board Committees. Board Members also represent and embody the Faces & Voices of Recovery campaign by communicating its mission and promoting its program and activities to the recovery community, friends and allied organizations.

Board members are required to attend at least two-thirds of all full Board meetings per year (4 of 6 meetings). One of those meetings will be a two-day, in person retreat, the balance will occur by telephone or in person. Board Members do not receive financial compensation for their work on the Board, however, all trips to Board Meetings and phone expenses are sponsored by Faces & Voices of Recovery.

In addition to participation in Board Meetings, members serve on a least one active Board Committee. Throughout the year, Committees will communicate regularly regarding their work and report to the full Board at meetings regarding their progress.
